Does Classical Music have an Effect on the Speed of a Plant's Growth?

 Kia ora,

For my Science Fair topic, I am going to be exploring whether classical music has an effect on the speed of a plants growth.

I think this is important, because if my experiment is successful (in the way that it does have an effect on the speed of growth), then it could change the way man-kind grows plants in large quantities. An example of an improvement in this matter (if successful) could be: the fruit and vegetable fields. If the companies are able to grow their products faster, with the presence of music, then they are able to ship and sell their products away faster. This could also be a positive thing because the value of fruits and vegetables will naturally go down due to the fast growing levels- making them more eligible for people of all incomes to buy. If fruit and vegetables are cheaper, the consumption rates will be higher, consequently creating a healthier planet.

Thank you for reading.

Brooke.

Leadership within my School

We have just completed an assessment which discusses the different roles of the student hierarchical leadership system within our kural, (which is Bay of Islands College), and who those people are that fulfill those roles. I created a Google Doc to display my mahi.

This assignment was about learning and identifying the different leadership roles within our kura so that we are able to gage a clear understanding of what these roles consist of to hopefully, one day, take these roles for ourselves.

I have learnt how to identify the people in our kura based on their leadership role, and also the things I can receive support in. For example, I can talk to Rome Davis about my concerns regarding the school so he can transfer my concerns to the Board of Trustees Meetings to hopefully, present a change in the school- as he is the Board of Trustees Student Representative.

This relates to my Leadership Speech assignment because it discusses the different attributes which are necessary in being a good leader. One of which is determination. To be a good leader in our kura, you need to be determined in making good changes which will benefit everyone.

I now have a clear understanding of these roles so I am able to aspire to be a senior leader with the certainty that I know all that consists of being a representative and leader for Bay of Islands College.

The Nazi

From my research on Nazi consolidation, I learnt about how the origins of the Holocaust, and how the Nazi Party gained so much power.

Personally, I don’t think there is anything positive about the pre-holocaust events. My reasoning for this is; The Nazi gang are a merciless and manipulative party, as their true intentions are revealed a number of times throughout my research. They would sneak their way up to power, by using Germany's moments of weakness, such as; The Reichstag Fire, where the Nazis seized on this event in order to gain power by turning Germany against the Communist Party, as a member of the Communist Party was arrested for the crime.

The events leading up to the Holocaust somewhat relate to Donald Trumps thirst for power. Donald Trump's racism towards black and hispanic people relates to Adolf Hitler’s hatred towards Jewish people.

My research takes place before the Hitler became the President of Germany. The first article is about the Reichstag Fire, which was the first step for the Nazi Party to gain complete power over Germany. In the seventh article, it speaks about the death of President Hindenburg and Hitler’s announcement that he would hold a vote on whether or not Hitler could combine the roles of chancellor and president. This would mean Hitler would become Germany’s official president. The majority of Germany were in favour, receiving 87.93% of the vote.

Something which I would be interested to know is: did most of Germany really support Hitler and the Nazi Party, or were they only supportive because they were afraid of the consequences which could follow if they did not identify as a Nazi Party supporter.

The Schindler's List

Introduction

Schindler’s List’ is a  historical drama based on the events of the Holocaust- From 1939 to 1945. German businessman, Oskar Schindler, is an entrepreneur, who has just moved to Kraków, Poland, to start up his factory. Consequently, World War II had just begin, meaning; the Holocaust had as well.

Positive

The movie taught me a great deal about the events of the Holocaust. Although it was extremely emotionally confronting, I felt as if Schindler's List was very educational and I’m grateful to know a lot more about this important part of history.  Hopefully other people which watch it as well, agree to never again repeat these horrific events.

Thoughtful

Throughout the movie, it accurately demonstrates the major inequality towards Jewish people. Schindler’s List shows the traumatizing, and vile conditions Jews had to live through in the Ghettos.  This somewhat reminds me of the events happening in China today. People of Muslim religion are forced to go against their own religion, by for example; eating Pork and overall being treating unfairly- similar to the Holocaust.

Helpful

I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone over the age of 13, as it shows some mature ideas and concepts.

Question

A question which I am curious to know about Schindler's List is; how many Schindler Jews remained in Germany and Poland, after the war ended.

Schindler's List Reflection

I was really impressed by the fact that this movie was able to make me so immensely emotional, about the events of the Holocaust, portrayed in Schindler’s List. This shows how powerful this movie really was. It was extremely emotionally confronting, watching these horrible and gruesome things happen to so many innocent Jews- right before my eyes. I think Schindler’s List was one of the best historical dramas I’ve ever watched. You can tell from the extensive detail.Schindler's List was amazingly written, and thought out. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone over the age of 13- as it shows a number of mature ideas and concepts.

Athletics Self-reflection

In athletics training, I enjoyed managing my own training and improvement because I was able to work on activities at my own pace, because I know I work a little bit slower in p.e than a lot of other people. Although, sometimes I found it difficult to get guidance from a teacher because they had other people to tend to.

For my effort on athletics , I would rate myself a solid 7/10. I tried my hardest to participate in at LEAST 5 events.  I'm pretty sure I got up to six activities. They were a variety of field and track events. Even though I didn't place in any of the events, I'm still proud that I participated a great deal more than last year.

I would give myself an overall grade a Merit, because although I'm not the best at any of the events, I do think I put an effort to improve in the majority of them. The events I most improved in are high jump, javelin, discus and the 400 metre run.

The Growth-Mindset self-talk I used was; from where I am now, I can only improve, so I may as well try my hardest. Whaea Ruth helped me maintain this mindset throughout this whole unit.

 Shake to be Surprised

Comparing Two Right Declarations

The similarities between Te Tiriti o Waitangi and The Universal Declaration of Human Rights are equality, they both talk about rights and no discrimination, they both have articles, and you're allowed to own things, as they both state. Things that are different about the two declarations are that in The Universal Declaration of Human Rights they state your allowed to own things without anyone having rights over it but in Te Tiriti o Waitangi they state everything belongs to the Crown. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights has 30 articles whereas Te Tiriti o Waitangi only has 3. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights says there's no unfair detainment and in Te Tiriti o Waitangi it's never mentioned. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was written for the ''Universe'' and Te Tiriti o Waitangi it's between the English Crown and Maaori.
