Globalisation Unit

 Being Globally Minded:

Key concepts of being globally minded include, economy, trade and globalisation. We learnt about the importance of imports and exports and why we need globalisation in today's society.

Globalisation Definition:

Globalisation is the process by which different countries collaborate to support each others economy with the trading of goods and created job opportunities for people.

Economy:

Economy is when a society produces goods and services in order to create money for the country. Key players in an economy are households, businesses, the government, banks and the reserve bank. The government collects taxes from working households in order to spend on things which will benefit the country such as; road works and/ or development, etc.

Our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern:

Jacinda Ardern is New Zealand's current Prime Minister and has been since the year 2016. Just in October, her and her party, Labour won a second term in government. Jacinda Ardern is the minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, National Security and Intelligence and the Child Poverty Reduction.

Kiwi Culture

This term I grew my understanding of myself, kiwi culture and Greek Culture as that was the country I selected for my "Another Culture" assignment. I learnt about some kiwi icons such as; Pineapple Lumps and Pounamu to a much deeper understanding.

The most exciting part of the "Kiwi Culture" unit was the "Ko Au" slides where I was able to learn about myself in more detail. I also enjoyed learning about Greek culture.

Before this unit, I was only really interested in learning about other cultures history and facts but what I didn't realise, is that learning about; culture, heritage and identity is just as important. Not only was I able to use these words when applying it to Greek culture but I also applied it to myself which is so important if not more.

About me

Kia ora, my name is Brooke. I am a year 9 student attending Bay of Islands College and I am a part of Totara house. I have four siblings, three brothers and one sister which are all younger than me. On my Mum’s side of my family, I am Māori and New Zealand European. On my Dad’s, I am English.

At school, I enjoy Social Studies but in particular; History. Throughout all of my schooling I have always found Maths more difficult than the rest of my subjects. This year my goal is to receive good grades through my Maths exam and the rest of my subjects too. My interests include dance, fitness and spending time with family and friends.

This year, I am looking forward to taking all of the opportunities I am offered. Another one of my goals is becoming more enthusiastic when doing subjects which I’m not particularly fond of.
